Sozialgeschichte des Bundesrepublikanischen Films (Social History of West German Cinema)(1997-2000)
In winter 1997 students and teachers of the Goethe University of Frankfurt came together with staff members of DIF to outline a project about German film history. Two key issues became apparent:
The research activity should take a sociohistorical approach, which interprets films with regard to the political and historical situation of the FRG, whereas in this context film as art comes second.
There was consensus, that today's generation has their own approaches to evaluate film history. Therefore it was refrained from standards and the involved canonisation. Based on individual interests other films were included and well-known films newly interpreted.
The project resulted in a publication on 50 years of West German film history.
